Love Penny's Noodles!! Great Thai food and prices.
Best spot for good food at affordable prices. Always friendly staff and best Tom Yum soup!
I really want to like this place but our experience today just was not enjoyable. I ordered the Thai Ravioli which is shrimp dumplings and BBQ pork. Unfortunately, the pork was very dry. My partner had Pad See Ew that was so sweet it could have been dessert. Even the iced tea I ordered tasted old and sour. Needless to say we were very disappointed. The atmosphere is bright and cheerful and the servers were very friendly and efficient. But we went there to eat and the food was not good. We probably won't go back.
I have been going to Penny's for many years and every time I always leave satisfied. They have good thai food for a very reasonable price with a pretty good atmosphere and cheap drinks. It also helps that this one and the one in wicker park are both less than half a block from a train station so they are very easy to get to.
I love that spicy basil.
Everyone talks about this place but I've been here three times and I just can't bring myself to like it. The aromas when you walk in hits you and makes you think I can't wait to eat the food. Unfortunately, the food just doesn't live up to the smells. Maybe I'm not ordering the right things, but I had a pad thai noodle that had zero taste. I ended up ordering a side of peanut sauce to pour over the noodles just to give them some sort of flavor. The fried rice I ordered from here had the same exact problem, tasteless. The only thing I've had that I enjoyed was the Tom Yum soup. I will say that the portions are generous and the interior of the restaurant is warm and delightful with a fireplace at the entrance and local Chicago art on the walls.
I've been frequenting for over a decade now and have never had a bad experience. Keep up the good work.
their soups and apps are amazing! the noodle wonton soup is perfect for when you are sick and need a lot of broth to soothe your throat. its also hearty enough for two meals! absolutely delicious love coming here and staff is always friendly
Penny's was second to none. Great food at a great value. Nice people in a fun atmosphere. However, Sunday, April 14 was the closing date as they are now out of business.
One of my favorite spots, the food is always great and portions are pretty big.
Something that we had been hearing about from friends for quite some time. We finally made our way there and absolutely loved it! !
Last Day. Bitter Sweet Goodbye to Penny's Noodles
Get it while you can! Closing April 14 2019 FOREVER! So sad 😠
Wish it was more clear on gluten free options
I've been coming to Penny's for 20+ years (various locations). The food is great and always delivers. I was surprised on my last visit to see the prices have gone up significantly. I love the food, but I think it's pushing the price point.
Love their service and pad tai
Loved this place as a kid. Will miss it.
Fantastic! Seriously one of the best restaurants we went to! Portions are large and the it’s not too pricey. Everyone there wants to help you have the best meal too. Seriously not a single complaint about this place. It’s right next to the town as well so you can easily walk off those extra carbs. I’m pretty sure they even allow pets. If your in the area with nothing to do, stop in and get a bite. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
Quick serve good noodles!
Really, really good delivery which makes me think how amazing their food must be in the restaurant. Everything was delicious and hot, their delivery was quick, and I will definitely be ordering from here again. Their spicy soups are ridiculously good and I would also recommend their pad see ew spicy chicken dish.
I've been there a couple times by my self... that should say a lot. They win in price, quantity, and quality. Their sliced beef noodle is to die for and their crab ragoon is the best I've had. The service is always good and everything in that department is simple and unpretentious. It's a rare gem in Lincoln Park.
I used to live this place, the good was so flavorful. But it seems since they began downsizing, is like they are just going through the motions. The barbeque pork with noodles was once so good, this part time i had it, it was just so so. The Tom yum soap also seemed to lack the robust flavor it once had.
This was my first time being here, and unfortunately it will be my last. The owner is retiring, and the restaurant will be closing as of April 14, 2019. The food was delicious and the service was decent. I would go back again if given the opportunity.
I totally enjoyed it.
Eww. Terrible. Crab Ragoons weren’t the slightest crispy, smushy with oil. Wonton soup was flavorless. Pad Thai noodles and chicken tasted like it was 3 days old. Never had such bad Asian food.
The other reviews are right, staff is friendly and fast. This is the red curry chicken option. I also got a Paloma drink as part of their drink specials on Sunday. Everything tasted delicious! Must try and definitely will come back. Also got the pad Thai to-go and it also delicious!
Great food and great staff. Food was awesome with spring rolls as appetizers. This all was was at a low price. I highly recommend this place. Been here several times with the same result....awesome.
First time customer here. We ordered tom yum sad to say it’s a small serving fir $5 we also had the 5 pepper shrimp plate few pieces of shrimp just filled it with tons of rice. We also ordered pad thai great flavors but chicken was chewy servings good for 2. All in all staff was friendly and very nice price was decent. It’s a hit and miss I guess.
My favorite go to Thai restaurant! Love it excellent food!
Best noodles, been going here for years. Always get the Pad Se EU.
Either name has been changed or took over by someone. There is Andy's Thai kitchen at this place now which is good but a cash only place.
Never disappointed when I eat here.
Been going here 4 ever... delicious fresh food...try the Thai ravioli or the spicy basil
Fast service and tasty food
Went here with my son for years now since the penny's noodles on Damen closed in 2012. This one has terrible paintings all over the walls that look like they were bought at a 90s yard sale. and I'm a regular here because I *liked* the food but after eating here this Tuesday 03-10-18 at around 2 pm I ordered spicy basil with tofu and found one hair and one finger nail. My son ordered Thai rice and got sick later that night. I've started to notice he gets sick every time we eat there so I've decided NEVER to eat in this restaurant ever again. Also I should note the food this time tasted old and re-heated. I was too embarrassed to say anything about the finger nail and the hair. I was a regular in the restaurant and always tipped well and was nice. I don't understand why they screwed up on my order so badly. DISGUSTING. Should defiantly be closed down for food poisoning.
For years we’ve been having pennies and it’s never been a disappointment. Absolutely LOVE the food! My all time favorite Asian food.
This was a good place to get a nice bowl of noodles or fried rice. My understanding is it's under new management and a new name. It was cash only when we dropped by to ask some questions. I don't know how the new place will be like but let's hope it keeps the good food.
Cute and Cozy little noodle joint. It's BYOB - you will smell like food once you leave. They have fabulous sidewalk sitting during the summer. I always get the Thai Spring Rolls and Pad Thai with Chicken. I highly recommend Spicy Basil or Egg Noodles with Barbecued Pork.
The one and only favorite Thai restaurant. Amazing food.
This place never disappoints. Nothing better on a cold snowy day than a bowl of wonton soup! Yummy!
Quick and delicious. This is a go to spot.
I love this place! It's never too busy, the food is fresh, and the service is always fast and friendly. Lots of great vegetarian options. It's BYOB, but be warned: they charge a $5 cork fee (seems excessive).
Mediocre food and service overpriced and not very clean it's not that it's good that used to be with the original owner have it they used to rock the quality has gone downhill ever since the old owner sold it I would avoid it by all means do not waste your time or money there's so many other choices around and better value
The service may not always be perfect, but I always go to Penny's for the delicious food. When I first moved here I heard a lot about the amazing Thai food, but only experiences it firsthand at Penny's. It has its own wit and charm and a fun out-of-the-way city atmosphere.
Penny’s has provided excellent Thai food for years. Every Thai place is a bit different and has their strong dish but Penny’s is delicious across the board. Good flavors, good consistency - nothing over or underdone. I can bring friends here and nobody leaves disappointed. I love their chocolate raspberry cake - I don’t think it’s a Thai delicacy but it is delicious.
Always a delicious meal! Nice, quaint and cozy! Perfect for a 1st date, group or even solo. Try the BBQ pork noodles soup! It's amazing!
First time I went to Penny's Noodles and I had the best experience I've ever food was very delicious and fresh staff was very friendly and food was prepared fast. I do recommend this place and will certainly be coming back to try this restaurant again.
Love this place, I've been coming here since I was a kid. Food is super tasty, prices are very fair. Waitress was really nice. I wish they opened up one on the south side.
I have loved this place for years. The food is excellent, portions are big and the price is reasonable. My favorites are the Vietnamese Spring Rolls and the Sliced Chicken noodle dish.
Red curry was decent. Chicken was a bit dry and the curry wasn't even spicy. I did like the assortment of veggies in it.
